Maialund
Literally "Land of the Maia".
Wild lands where the air buzzes with natural magic. Inhabited by various nomadic groups widely referred to as the 'Maia'.
Main continent
North
The most settled and population-dense half of the continent. Natural magic is almost entirely absent except for in the wildest regions.
The Capital
The first major city founded by the humans during the end of the Ancient World and now the centre of the continent.
Mercury
The trade and commerce hub of the continent. Traders from the Eastern continent and beyond come to sell their wares.
Roads
The Pass: acts as a natural border between Maialund and the Main Continent.
High Road: the main road between Mercury and the Capital. This road is heavily monitored and sees almost constant traffic 24/7.
Thieves Road: the colloquial name for the southern route out of Mercury, which is significantly less monitored than the High Road. Mostly used by traders coming in from the country.
South
The wilder half of the continent. Natural magic and ancient ways are more prevalent. The Capital tries to exert some control over the people, but forces are small and difficult to organise due to the natural barriers. There are no roads over this half of the continent, but there are many commonly travelled paths.
The Wilder (WILL-der)
An ancient and impenetrable forest separating the Northern and Southern halves of the continent.
Florist
A small village where natural magic is still widely practised.
Wetlands region
Centuries ago this region was a large lake that dominated this half of the continent. Gradually drained due to the formation of the river, it's now a wild wetlands. Decades ago a flood occurred, destroying neighbouring towns and drowning the nearby forest. The land and people recovered quickly, but the drowned forest struggles to heal.
Bird people
Impossibly tall mountains that disappear into a thick bank of clouds. Above the clouds bird people thrive in secrecy, blessed by the Sun. The clouds were solidified by ancient magic during the founding of their city, allowing structures to be built on top. The mountain peaks are fertile and used for farming.
Eastern continent
Their exports are highly sought after, especially by the noble families living in the Capital.
