Cory once lived in an ancient Greece-inspired city above the clouds, where bird people thrived in secrecy, worshipping the Sun as a genderless deity. They were blessed with their light magic when they were very young and trained diligently as part of the priesthood. Journeying down to the earth was far too dangerous, however that didn't stop Cory's little sister from convincing them to take her. They hid their wings beneath cloaks and spent the day exploring a small village near the coast.

Once night fell, a group of bounty hunters made their way into the town, and one spotted the pairs wings hidden beneath their cloaks and recognised the value in the feathers as an ingredient in ancient healing magic. Cory and their sister were hunted down before they could leave, and they were caught in a barn fire and their wings were clipped. Cory's sister died from her wounds the next morning, leaving Cory alone and badly hurt with no way of reaching their people in the clouds. They escape the town through a nearby drowned/dead forest, and come to a run down house on the other side. they use the rumours of a powerful ancient wizard who once lived in that house to keep people away, and slowly begin to heal the land with their light magic. They spend their time trying to heal their wings, or at least stave off the pain for a little while.

In the present day, Cory joins Sam, Ghost, and a (currently) unnamed Knight in their quest to save the land from a hungry fire spirit who has possessed the Queen. The others are under the impression that Cory is the powerful ancient wizard, however their true identity as a simple healer and minor magic-user is revealed. Cory carefully conceals their true identity as a bird person throughout their adventures, causing them lots of pain as they hide their wings under their clothes. Cory is initially closest with Ghost due to their mutual interest in healing, magic, and the world around them. Cory takes continuous notes in their field journal on the world around them, and often compares these with Ghost. Cory is unsure of Sam at first, wary and a little bit uncomfortable with his jokey and unserious disposition. Cory and Sam eventually break through each others shells with Sam's discovery of Cory's wings, and they become close. Sam helps Cory heal and regain use of their wings. Knight underestimates Cory at first, especially after they reveal that they aren't the all-powerful wizard they were said to be. However, they both earn each others deep respect and camaraderie.
